The same amount of oil from a NO-Name Brand would be $66,67 here in Norway.

Everything my family owns takes 10w30. I buy it in big 5 gal jugs from tractor supply.

Hooray for Murika.

Lucky. I cannot find this type of oil in large jug format locally.

I thought Norwegians all drove electric cars now...

I think a lot of high-tech motor oils are overpriced to begin with.

Does it have to be Castrol Synthetic? At least around here I can pick up 5 quarts of shell rotella t6 synthetic 5w-40 for <$30 from walmart, as a 4+1qt.

I wish I could have a Tesla.. But they cost like 3 times what I have as a yearly income.

Yeah, oil tend to be overpriced, BUT I'd rather spend a few bucks more on some known brand than risk it and buy the cheap ass shit :P

Ive thought about running Rotella T6. Ive eyed it more than once at the store. Apparently it is good stuff, since its made for HD diesels.

I donno, I've just always been a Castrol guy. Ran GTX in all my past Honda/Acura products.

But if you drive a VAG product, don't you have to have the requisite Mann-Hummel OES filter otherwise your engine asplode?

Plus the super unobtanium oil?

(It's that way for the APB 2.7T)

I buy my oil at WalMart. (the only thing I buy from them). I get a 5 qt container of Mobil 1 for like low $7 something a quart.

I've been using the Napa Gold aka WIX 1191 oil filter. Its an oversized filter for the 1.8T, although I think there might even be another size above it.

On my 98' 30V 2.8 I made the mistake of buying a K&N filter once LOL. Never again will I ever spend that much on an oil filter.

It's just funny because if you spend any time on the US VW/Audi forums, any mention of not using Pentosin or Total or Royal Purple or , the commentariat freaks out claiming that you will instantly grenade your engine.

God help you if you point out that Mobil 1 is also VW 502 approved, and your car takes VW 502 oil.

Hell, there are some who will even freak out if you dare to use any filter that didn't come from the main dealer's overpriced parts desk. Or use the oil in the official VW bottle, because it's like Jesus oil or something.

It's like a dollar cheaper per qt in NY for the 5 qt than 5 1 qt bottles.

I buy it because it comes in one container instead of five. Also, because it is cheaper.

Yeah, I'm an 11 mpg, pick-up driving, environmentalist :)

YES! haha. I notice that same thing on the forms as well. I think the ONLY bit that really needs a specific Audi/VW fluid would be for the power steering. (technically the engine coolant as well, as long as its compatible)

Otherwise, yeah... "Omg you didnt use tier 1 Mann? ur shits rekt" "Omg you used a FRAM filter.. dude did you know those..."

A lot of Honda people have this weird thing too as they ONLY like to buy OEM parts. If it doesnt say HONDA on the parts label... they freak.

It's fine, my grandfathers' truck takes 10 quarts of oil. Yay for diesels!

I wanna say it's $7.29 for 1 quart and like $22.69 for a 5 qt. Can't remember though.

Hell, my S4 still has G12 coolant in it, but I will flush it and backflush the heater core when I finally get G13 coolant. Because VW doesn't sell G12 (the pink stuff) anymore, and while it is claimed you can mix G12 with G12+ and G12++ and G13, I'd rather not give the engine any more reason to asplode on me, considering that's my track car.

I still have the M-B Power Steering fluid bottle from when I had my W210, but that's because *no one* had the correct mineral oil formulation other than the Benz dealer.

I'm not sure why the Germans went with mineral oil for power steering. There must've been some reason that we mere mortals cannot figure.

When I noticed my power steering was low (which was why I bought the stuff originally)... as soon as I added the new fluid, the steering actually became noticeably smoother. I was shocked. Probably means it needs to be changed sometime too. #yolo

So, knowing all this I have G12+ concentrate on hand and the speshul Audi/VW PS fluid as well.

I need to get the heater core backflushed, and hook up the manifold gauges to the A/C side. The compressor clutch works, but I think it's low on refrigerant.

Yes, it's a track car, but there's no reason to not be comfortable :)

Windows down and heat on full tilt while hitting apexes = winning.

Plus it helps to have functional defog (with A/C). I know on my B5 I had to re-charge the system at least once. My B6 has already gone through 1 pressure sensor.
